Medscape: IQVIA API Integration into Registration

Improved registration completion rates by 2 to 10 % by incorporating the IQVIA API to validate users and streamlining the registration

The How

By integrating the IQVIA API into our registration, were were able to cross reference user data with the Healthcare Practitioner (HCP) database and validate them as verified healthcare professionals, allowing them to fill less fields and experience a faster registration process

My Contributions

Alignment: Worked closely with international counterparts for alignment

Development: Oversaw the integration and User Acceptance Testing of the API

Delivery: Defined user stories and product requirements and oversaw the entirely of the product life cycle

CONTEXT:

An account is only considered complete and marketable once the user finishes registration, which involves filling out forms on two separate pages.

PROBLEM:

Only 80% of registered users completed the first page of registration, leaving 20% with incomplete accounts. As a result, we were unable to communicate with or market to these users.

OPPORTUNITIES:

We discovered IQVIA, one of the largest databases of healthcare practitioners. While healthcare practitioner credentials are public, few APIs exist that allow for leveraging this information for verification purposes.

ACTION:

We optimized the registration process by reallocating some fields from the second page to the first and integrating the IQVIA API into our system. Now, after users enter their information (first name, last name, profession, specialty, and postal code), we cross-reference it with the IQVIA database. If the user’s credentials match, they are verified as healthcare practitioners, allowing them to complete their account without filling out the form on the second page.

RESULTS:

This adjustment reduced the rate of incomplete registrations by 2% to 10% monthly, and our database of healthcare practitioners became more complete.
